Choose the right first appointment

Your regular GP is the starting point for repeat prescriptions, routine care and referrals. After arranging health cover, RHIF Burgas can help identify contracted practices near your address. Patient acceptance and consultation language need to be agreed with the practice.

For private appointments, establish the site, consultation price, extra tests and the contract for the specific insured service before booking.

During a scouting visit

A valid EHIC gives eligible visitors access to medically necessary care during a temporary stay under Bulgarian public-system conditions. Patient charges may apply; private treatment and repatriation are outside EHIC. Check the provider accepts the card before a non-urgent visit. Keep receipts and clinical documents.

For a serious emergency call 112. Save your exact accommodation address, including building entrance and floor, on your phone and on paper.

Keep ongoing care organised

Before travelling, prepare a short medical summary, diagnoses, allergies, recent reports and a medicine list using active ingredients and doses. Ask your existing clinician about a safe handover and necessary monitoring. Bring enough legally permitted medication for the transition, with suitable storage and documentation.

EU prescriptions can generally be used in another EU country, but availability and dispensing rules differ. Ask for a cross-border paper prescription when needed; an electronic prescription may not be usable abroad. Confirm the medicine, strength and supply with a local pharmacy rather than relying on a familiar brand name.

Viva Clinic, Sunny Beach: +359 554 95 0 95. The clinic publishes year-round private primary, specialist and dental care, plus transport to its clinic. Its English-speaking 24-hour offer is described for summer; confirm winter appointments, language, transfer arrangements and insurance payment individually. University Hospital Burgas: its rehabilitation department describes referral-based inpatient and outpatient routes. Your clinician can establish the appropriate route.

A pharmacy starting point

A European Commission event listing placed Afya Sveti Vlas at 2 Roza Street for an event on 30 September 2026. This is a recent address lead, not a verified winter opening schedule. The chain’s own locations page also lists Afya Nessebar, 9 Ivan Vazov Street, +359 550 75358. Call ahead for your medicine, prescription arrangements and opening hours; consultation languages are unconfirmed.

Help at home and care later in life

Home help: Nessebar Municipality explicitly includes Sveti Vlas in its home social-care service area. It also publishes assistant support for eligible people needing help with daily activities. Start at Social Care and Services, 22A Han Krum Street, Nessebar, +359 554 42005. Assessment, residence status, fees and available capacity determine access; foreign retirees should obtain an individual eligibility decision.

Nursing and transport: Mobilen Hospis Burgas publishes home nursing for prescribed procedures (+359 899 110204); Lineika Burgas publishes planned patient transport (+359 885 558436). Both are enquiry leads: coverage at your intended address, staff, language, price and dates remain unconfirmed. Agree transport for repeated rehabilitation appointments separately from treatment.

Residential support: Burgas lists the Tsveta and Anka Varbanovi older people’s home, with an assessment/admission route through social assistance and a defined target group. It is not evidence of an available assisted-living place for an incoming retiree. Use the AKSU licensed-provider register to check the legal entity and relevant social-service category of private providers.

Good to know: Household assistance, qualified nursing and residential care meet different needs. No provider here has been clinically or independently quality-vetted. Current places, English/German support, dementia care, overnight cover and eligibility for a newcomer remain unresolved. If one partner needs care, include support and accommodation for the other in the plan.

Pomorie: start a separate enquiry with its municipality about social support at the intended address. The Nessebar service description does not establish entitlement in Pomorie. Get an individual assessment and a written account of fees, waiting times and available support before relying on it.

Test the journey as well as the service

Try the route from a prospective home to a pharmacy, GP and a Burgas appointment, including the return journey and building access. Decide who can accompany you or arrange a transfer if your usual driver is unwell. Keep the address, medical summary and a backup contact accessible to both partners or a trusted person.

Pomorie: a hospital enquiry and your GP route

Pomorie Municipality lists MBAL Pomorie at 1 Parashkev Stoyanov Street, with reception on +359 596 22283. A separate municipal useful-numbers page lists +359 890 115205. Ask which number and department handle the appointment you need; the two published contacts have not been reconciled by a call.

For Nessebar and Pomorie as well as Sveti Vlas, use RHIF Burgas to enquire about contracted practices. Confirm acceptance of new patients, consultation language, referral arrangements and the exact service covered. Rehabilitation or spa advertising does not establish clinical suitability or S1-funded treatment.
